Learning journey week..
Monday: World trade game!! Hehe..very fun!! Me dynna and elaine were from brasil in the game and we won (second)!!! The game basically involves trading among different countries so as to produce enough end products for the people in the country.
Tuesday: URA and CBD trip. boring
Wednesday: free day
Thursday: We went to sell T-issues in the morning. Went to newton at first but the sales there were quite pathetic as my group (xue, shangguan and i) were between 2 other groups. And also, it was in the morning where everyone was hurrying to go to work lahh.. but we did managed to sell some with our wonderful persuasion skills haha. And i saw my cousin! Didn't know she works at newton.. and of course we forced her to buy... Sales got worse by ard 9.30 (there were twice as many sellers than buyers)so shangguan, xue and i decided to be nice and let others have chance to sell more so we went bishan (the nearest place where no group was allocated)to sell. Sales was much better there as there wasn't as many sellers there. We were selling happily away when we spotted the old lady who sells tissues at 3 for a dollar. Felt very bad and went to the other side to sell so as not to steal her business or sth. Then, eva and huiyi's grp came and happily started selling in front of the lady, forcing her to change location. But not really their fault also lah, since they really didn't see the old lady. My grp decided not to sell altogether since we felt really really bad since the old lady sells tissues to earn a living. (learnt later from eva that she also has heart problems and could barely support herself). We went to Macs for breakfast and then Shangguan messaged her frens who lived in the boarding sch to come down to buy but to no avail. Went back to school after that. We managed to sell a little more than half of what we had at first which was quite good i guess=)
Then, we went to sungei buloh to carry out a line transect. everything there seemed so boring after our exciting trip to Tioman (points down to earlier entry). The pencil and knee roots looked really pathetic and tiny and the place looked so much more polluted with rubbish than in Tioman. Tioman rocks!!!=)

Tioman trip

o0ps..sorry for this long overdue entry=)
Actually i typed a bit of this let's see..4 days ago..
back from tioman!! Argh...i miss it. Everything is like so relaxing and moving at such a slow pace as compared to Singapore.

First day: I woke up at 4.30am and did some last minute packing and preparation. We assembled in the school foyer at 6am (so early right)and Yi Hui, Bixue and I erm. wore the wrong attire since we weren't really listening during the briefing the day before. We set off on a 5 hour journey to the jetty where we got onto a ferry to go to Tioman. I got seasick on the way there though it was only an hour's ride>< but i wasn't the only one..many other passengers got even sicker than me, including xue heh.(reminds me of that time when i went all the way from Singapore to Tioman by ferry and puked 13 times) After what seemed like an eternity, we arrived at Paya Beach resort. Had lunch and then we broke into our groups (where i was the only sec 3)and explored the mangroves and the natural vegetation near the resort. Learnt quite a bit (the different types of mangroves plants which can be grouped under the five main groups, BRAXS- Bruguiera, Rhizophora, Avicennia, Xyplpcarpus and Sonneratia. Saw those in the sungei buloh nature reserve boardwalk thingy too..but believe me, those in sungei buloh are nothing compared to those in Tioman. The knee roots and pencil roots are enormous mans! And we actually went into the mangrove itself, meaning we are able to touch those roots lahh) Then we tried out our snorkelling gear and went out to the sea to practise snorkelling a bit. The mouthpiece was quite uncomfortable..=( (my mouth too small maybe) Had dinner after that and some powerpoint presentations before going back to our rooms. For some reason, clara xue yihui and me all decided to squeeze into the queen-sized bed that night..

Second day: We woke up at 7.15am and surprisingly, bixue didn't kick me that night, but clara's butt was quite in the way..(luckily jiening wasn't there mans) The breakfast there rocks! Especially the egg omelette where u can put cheese, ham, tomato, onion etc in it!! (I miss the omelette guy!! haha..)After that set off on a pretty bumpy trip on the extremely choppy sea (i mean it, it's even more thrilling than a roller coaster ride) to coral island. A pity we didn't get to see any dolphins on the way there=( We did quite a bit of snorkelling. Was very surprised by the clearness of the sea water, where you can really see all the marine creatures around you and the colourful coral reefs at the bottom. Our guide explained to us the characteristics of the various organisms like the sponges, sea cucumber, corals, sea anemones etc etc. Had our lunch on the shore and then had some free time where we looked for pieces of dead coral which looked like different alphabets. After that, did even more snorkelling, this time at the salt water mangroves. And we saw a STINGRAY!! hehe..actualy i didn't even know that was a stingray till my guide pointed it out. Then we went to this place where we go into the water and feed the fish with pieces of bread. And WOW..that experience was great. It was like..hundreds of fish all around you and the fishes actually ate the bread from yr hand! One mistook my hand for bread and bit it. Ouch. Hehe..anyway it was chao nice and some pple refused to leave the place after the time was up..(winks at xue) Went back had dinner, another ppt and then went to bed. That night, Clara kept talking about how she missed her husband so much that made the rest of us start to miss pple as well. Xue and I started missing our yearmates(yes jiening, i missed you a lot[jiening asked me to say this btw])I missed PNGTEH especially and my real and fake family members -winks-

Third day: This is the most tiring day i think..We trekked all the way up to the emergents of the rainforest!! Let's see..we walked from 10.30am till 6.00pm. Saw many flying dragons, geckos, snakes, and millipedes which are gigantic (ard 20 cm by 3cm). We had to hold the millipede in 2 hands, esp for the tractor millipede which crawled real fast.. The way down was really bad since the ground was really muddy and slippery, easy to fall or very steep which made it very hard to descend. I had felt very lonely on the trip when we broke into groups till then when shiwei brenda and qianhua started entertaining me with those jokes and weird stories=) We were practically laughing the whole way back..

Fourth day: Woke up at 6.00am and we did our seashore/mangrove survey on that day. Had to wake up early since the tide will come in at ard 11am. We discovered many marine creatures at unpredictable locations such as under the rocks and in tiny spaces of stones. Found many sea cucumbers, spongecrab, hermitcrabs, tunicates, mermaid's fern, bristle worms, sea squirts etc etc. Xue's grp who did the mangrove survey found a dead monitor lizard and a dog-headed sea snake (is that what it's called?) which all of us held. Then had a short presentation of our survey which was really impromptu. In the afternoon, we had free time! So xue, clara yihui and me went to shop for souvenirs! Bought for yrmates, pngteh, family and church friends=) At night, we had sort of a night trail where we went to the forest near the resort guided only by our torchlights. Xue and i regretted not volunteering earlier to go into the water to look for some of the night creatures. After that had a bonfire!! Had a great time singing those songs and dancing round the bonfire. After that we roasted our marshmallows using sticks we picked up on the way back! Qianhua was very nice and toasted marshmallows for me=) (and xue got jealous hehe) Thankyou!!

Last day: We went on a short trek to another part of the beach where we saw the nesting area of the turtles! Too bad we were half a day early and therefore missed the hatching of the baby turtles (so sad right??=() Anyway..xue and i saved 15 turtles that day!! After that had a tiring ride back to Singapore.

Hehh..i want to take this opportunity to thank these people:

Clara: Thanks for being such a cheerful roommate who always bring life to the room and bring smiles to our faces=) Thanks for being so optimistic no matter what happened and the entertainment at night with all those stories of yr bfs haha..

Yihui: Thank you for always being the one who volunteers to do stuff=) And being so considerate like taking such a short time to bathe everytime=) Your dance moves are great too..something i can never do lah (remember my erm. body wave?)hhehe.

Xue: For being crappy..yada yada..talking abt rc for practically the whole trip so much that clara said "hey! get a life you two" but who cares! Thanks for being around and making me feel more at ease. Haiyah! But for some weird reason, we are always stuck together..scalli we get into the same grp for UK trip again.. Schools also..same pri sch, same sec sch, same jc, and we just found out we both want to go to the same university!( and i just realised jiening does too) and we want to pursue the same career. Oh dear. Hope i won't be stuck with her FOREVER. haha..

Brenda: Thanks for being such a nice buddy.. Thanks for caring for me when i got seasick esp.=( And thanks for "protecting" me from the se4 lang2..

Shi Wei: Heyy!! Thanks so much for including me! I was really feeling very lonely before that. Thanks for making me feel good!

Qian Hua: Haha..this one i must thank the most. Though she was supposedly the "se lang" whom the other 2 were "protecting" me from. Though u seem to be very quiet but actually so humourous. hehe. Yr marshmallows rock too! Argh..i don't know how to express myself well in words, but i wanna say a big THANK YOU to you=)

Okay...so that's abt it for Tioman!! wo0t quite long an entry eh?

enrolment camp is over! it totally rocks! (du-uh, we, the zai pple organized it mahx)
It's quite a success!! Well done yearmates=)

Had parade prep for the most of the first day where we practised our goh.. Needed quite some time since we ahem, haven't really practised till EC. Though we started so late, it went quite well during the actual parade..we managed to bang together and stuff. (strangely, this last minute goh seems to be much better than the one we did for pop which we rehearsed for the whole month..) We were originally supposed to use the parade square where most of our practices took place. However, the security guard forgot to cordon off the area, so there were many cars in the parade square and we had to use the hall instead. However, i think that was in a way good since the hall enhanced our bangings and it's air-conditioned=) I think all the campers did quite well for parade too. good job everyone!

Had concert that night whereby we did our skit and sang our "carrot juice is murder" song. Think it's quite well done given that we didn't have time to rehearse it=) Most of us left in the middle of the concert to prepare for night trail. Leech and I set up the red crepe paper at the corridor outside the science labs. The wind was very strong at that time and it was quite scary when the red crepe paper fluttered in the wind and the banners hit against the wall. We were setting up halfway when shihua and ning came.. Leech was being a scaredy cat and screamt when she saw "those 2 figures appearing". We kept freaking each other out throughout the setting up of the trail.

Trail wasn't scary according to the campers but i hope they had fun..

After debrief and supper (which i missed), was informed that there was a change of i/c and i am the new i/c with ning as ai/c. That night, spent some time before going to sleep discussing about the next day with ning using her handphone light..Ning's phone came in quite handy for recording down impt stuff too;) Ning loves me so much that she keeps rolling over me when she's sleeping. I kept shifting away from her but she rolled over me again. tsktsk. We ended up 1 metre away from where we originally slept.

The second day, we had war games! Everyone had fun throwing water bombs at each other and at the end of the activity, practically everyone was wet from head to toe..

And i broke my record!! The longest time i have managed to do leg raise was 20 seconds and this time i did 45 seconds!!! I think the trick is to concentrate on something else and keep thinking that if i manage to hold on..then we don't have to repeat it all over again. It was very painful though..and i found out i was crying after the leg raise. Thank you rachel for allowing me to grab yr hand..i know i grabbed it really hard.. So sorry.. and thank you yearmates and juniors who kept cheering everyone else on..all of you rock. really...

Okay..gtg bye

ARGHHH...damn screwed now.

Sunday, March 06, 2005

quick post abt this week.
Tuesday..Had geog test. crapped a lot of stuff but not sure whether it's right.. hopefully it is=S

Thurday..Had Math test. Very screwed!! my question 5 and 6 confirmed wrong liaos. Question 5 since my teacher didn't even go thru that type of questions in class and question 6 since i stupidly forgot i have a calculator!!! The method of doing is correct lahh..just that i didn't find out the value of "a" since it isn't a perfect no. and couldn't go on to the other parts of the question..Stupid me. -hits self-
After that left school early to attend lectures at rjc by 2 supposedly renowned scientists. The first one was on how the brain works and the second one on stem cells. found the first one quite enriching but got cheemed out by the second.

Friday..last minute decided to go support bball south zone finals. Got into a little trouble with one of the teachers who refused to let us leave. Actually she said she wasn't going to say whether she is giving us the permission to leave and asked us to make our own decision. We decided to go since couldn't gain much from her lesson anyway.. Then she suddenly rushed out of the classroom after us and said that all of us could go except michelle.. I have no idea why she said so. Then she changed her mind and suddenly marched off to check the list of supporters to see if we lied to her. (maybe people lied to her before just to pon the lesson?-shrugs-) On the way there, she complained to practically everyone she saw. (form teacher, teachers in GO..) Finally she found the bball teacher in charge, complained some more and scanned the list of supporters, ticking off each name when she saw it. Obviously none of us cheated her so she finally let us off *whew* The match was really exciting and close..at first the scores were quite close, only abt 2 points diff. Then, rg was leading by over 10 points. Zhonghua suddenly caught up in the later part of the game, so much so that they actually overtook us a little. but in the end, rg managed to catch up and the game ended with us leading by a mere 4 points.

Saturday..Founders day in the morning. And for once, the fd com pple weren't in uniforms! hehe=) The performance was quite nice.. hehe..charlene, yr double roll rocks! and iris, you look chao cute when u hoppped ard with the violin=) After that, went out with pngte (hew refused to come with us. hmpf) to have brunch at kfc. Crapped a lot as usual...and i ate the fastest as usual. Created quite a commotion near the mrt station since we were tryin to stick the flag day sticker on each other's back. -.-'' Joined han, shihua, ning, hung and yen for lunch at lido and bought movie tix for "a series of unfortunate events". Then we went to buy prezzies for sec ones. When we looked at the price tags, we suddenly realised that we were quite broke after buying the movie tickets >< but clever us managed to buy something affordable and nice. yayy. Went back to watch the movie. It's kinda different from other films and i still don't get the storyline.. Anyway, ning was being such a scaredy cat(though she claims that i was). Fine..i warned her before the movie that i can't stand scary movies but this one wasn't even scary lor! but ning was quite terrified in the middle of the film and grabbed my hand saying "Hey. it will be scary if you are the characters in there ok!" And she decided to lay her head on my shoulder for some reason for the rest of the film.

Okay..shall go study now..byee!

just something to share..

A well-known speaker started off his seminar
by holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked,

"Who would like this $20 bill?"

Hands started going up.

He said, "I am going to give this $20 to one of you

but first, let me do this.

He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill.

He then asked, "Who still wants it?"

Still the hands were up in the air.

Well, he replied, "What if I do this?"

And he dropped it on the ground

and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe.

He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty.

"Now, who still wants it?"

Still the hands went into the air.

My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson.

No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it

because it did not decrease in value.

It was still worth $20.

Many times in our lives,

we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt

by the decisions we make and

the circumstances that come our way.

We feel as though we are worthless.

But no matter what has happened or

what will happen, you will never lose your value.

Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased,

you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you.

The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we

know,

but by WHO WE ARE.

You are special- Don't EVER forget it."
